"Producer" is a confusing term and it can be hard for someone who has not been in the recording process on a professional level to understand exactly what a producer does. I'm going to attempt to clear that up in a brief way here.The producer guides the artist through the recording of their music. They help in the selection of material and determine which takes are keepers and which can be better. The producer may also help compose the arrangements, engineer, and supervise the final mix of the record.
The producer is responsible for the sound and quality of the record.
The producer is not unlike a movie's director.
